Poem Number 23172

that really hurt--I had my nose pressed
to the hardest parts of you, trying
to burrow into your side, trying
to get a face full of your warm milk smells
but your elbow and your rib cage
and all your other loud, unmotherly bones
refuse to flex enough to let me into
your soft white breast or your pale pink heart.
