It does suck, and I do take offense! The poet inside of
me is livid with anger! You have injured my sensitive
nature! (Just kidding)

There are now quite a few poems in the "Completed Poems" file....it would be nice if these could be broken down into separate files, maybe 200 to 500 per file. It takes a bit of time for this file to open up. Separating the completed poems into multiple files would quicken this process and the older poems would still be available for viewing.

Is there anyone out who reads these comments and actually takes note of them. I am starting to feel like I am at the Wailing Wall. Please consider the following requests or at least provide us with some feedback:
1. an edit facility for "lines of poetry" and "comments".
2. categorizing poems in groups of 200s
3. a download facility for poems: from # to #
best regards

A stranger upon the faceless energy pointed me in this direction & now ... now I owe him a gratitude of thanks. This is a wonderful place & magical idea. I've only been cruising around this place for 2 days now & finally found the guts to "contribute a verse ..."
Thanks.

I feel you need to work on censoring your site and kick people off that want to reuin others poetry. The only thing I can't stand more than some lame brain is some lame brain who wants to reuin someone elses poetry that could be something. I admit you have some very talanted artiest here but you also have a bunch of Lame little boys and girls!!!!!!!! So please work on making this a better web site Thank you
Anonymous, ;
I for one, find the above request for censoring frightening.
pen - penelope greenwell, citizen of a still relatively free country; steveg63@ix.netcom.com
Censorship is self-deceiving, for it hides the true state of the human heart.
Dan, South Africa; danw@iafrica.com
On cencorship I must agree, with southern Dan & Penelopee, the book burning fires belong in the past, - tolerance, humor, quality will last (and everything else soon be forgotten)
allan, Copenhagen, Denmark; Allan_Dystrup@dk-online.dk
the notion of censoring artistic work is the request of someone fundementaly un -aqauainted with art.
Now, if some one has special needs.. for example wanting to write a poem for children... and wanted to do it with those assembled here..stating the special purpose at the get-go would make sense...
the reality is though that most poets come un-glued now and then...which i readily admitt to myself...thus far this has been a safe and gently padded room...and of course you can lead by example...where ever that may take you...
larry, Cal.; rau@wco.com
I think your (our) web site is breaking down, or at least har a corrupted entry, that is disrupting the functionality. You can't start a new poem and an entry in the poem index is "garbage" (obviously not interpreted as standard ascii!)
allan, Copenhagen, Denmark; Allan_Dystrup@dk-online.dk
Something really MUST be done about that bra! Can't get out of it...too tight....very restrictive!
pen, ; steveg63@ix.netcom.com
Who decides what is offensive. One for ...one against???.....By vote ??....By he who shouts the loudest?....I do believe that there should be some control, for obvious reasons...but if we do not allow poems that may reflect hard reality we
may be curbing the understanding some need.
And the realization of guilt from others. Poetry can enlighten hopes and subdue egos....it needs a safe place to be...if it's here..then it needs some freedom to exis in true form..
If poems are burned on the web , then so shall books be burned once again on the open fires.

No one can live in this poets lounge without confronting the yellowness of these pages.
Behind these poems, every human emotion conceivable connecting the prose and the passion, and both are exalted.
Human love seen at its height.
So let us contemplate the true nature of poetry. The drive to connect.
The dream of a common language.

Enjoy this site very much but feel it should have an "offensive language" warning posted as some of the poems are offensive. Most are very lovely but the authors get very angry if asked about it.The poetry is suffering from anger lately. Many personal diatribes in commentary.Beth

I had a bookmark that I lost ina "crash", it
allowed me to find a poem using only one line
from the piem. For instnce, I would type " Out of
the night that covers me" and woulk get the
answer, Invictus, and would be able to call up
the poem. I can't find this particular device

My thanks to you, Jane and Ann. This is great fun. I am among those who find AHA addictive. ...challenging my poesy on a daily basis.
I was wondering if it might be encouraged that "closed" poems be allowed to hang around for a while. In the couple of times that I've submitted a line with a final period, I've acknowledged the line, feeling that I was accountable for it's relevance. That would seem a more appropriate closure than immediate relegation to the archives. ...no time for savoring or comment. ...perhaps removal on a daily basis.
Also please let me know if I might make a contribution to your cost in maintaining the site. You deserve some help. Thanks again. Paul (aka Pablum) PesCeram@aol.com

Sorry about the recent closings. I have installed a
log of closes to try to pin down some information on how it
happens. There's a possibility this is caused by a software
bug, because recent closings seem to be coming from not one but

24 hours is way too long for many poems to stay up.. some are simply too bad... many are simply done....and after a few hours up they should be read from the completed list.
seldom do poems carry over well from oneday to the next... thier are peaks and valleys to use... and during times of high activity and creativity the old stuff is just in the way.. old stale and inhibiting...the rare exception the really good poem will stand on it's merits...

It is great to see that younger people are starting to develop their talents for and more each day. I am also glad to see that you have started poetry, you may be inexperienced now, but it won't take long 'til you get a handle on it. My name is Robert C. and I am only 17 years old, but I am very experienced in poetry I have been writing for a long time. I'm also in the middle of a book of poems which I am going to get published. 1. Like George from Rome,GA said, have 3 viewers to close a poem
2. Identify new poems
3. Like Larry from Cali. said, have the name(s) and time(s) the poems were closed
4. Rate poetry on a 1 to 10 scale, so you can choose from the complete list instead of just clicking on whatever.
5. Maybe a FREE chatroom would be cool too. -K.M.

HI Ann.
I've noticed that when posting a poem or a comment, I have to completely disengage from the page in order for it to appear. I am on Web TV.
Does that make a difference? In other words, I have to either shut the unit off or switch users

Thanks.

This is just my second brief visit, but compared to
other interactive sites, this one seems to be less
interactive in the writing phase. Many poems appear
to be written almost entirely by one person. It does
eliminate the playful enjoyment of hooking onto distinct
images and metaphors and adding new dimension or
direction. Complete poems posted invite comments, but
not participation in the creative process. I think
that it weakens the site.

I've been using the interactive page for quite some time now, and i have noticed a certain trend arising....I do believe the page was oroginally set up for many people to be able to collaborate on one poem, which is a great concept i might add...however, as of late more poets have been submitting completed works done comletely by one person,,, which is also a good thing.....my comment, or suggestion would be to creat a page similar to the original interactive page that would focus specifically on single-author poems for those who wish to participate in that facet primarily......this "new interactive page" would have to be set up so that an entire poem could be written at one time rather that having to continually backtrack to put one line down at a time..........If you think this would be a good idea please mail me at YETTERMON@HOTMAIL.COM

Ann, just a comment -- is it (or could it be) possible to return to the poem you commented on and not have to screen through previously read poems before you find where you left off? Say you make a comment (or addition) to poem 13456. You then have to screen through poems 1300 to 13456 to get to the next poem in the sequence. Please reply at your convenience.

Hello, Anne!
I was just reading people's comments & trying to keep up-to-date as to what has been going on on this page. I agree with one of the comments --- 50 poems posted are a bit too much. I'd love to comment on the poems that touch me & caught my eye but it takes too much time to read through the whole thing. Maybe 40 poems will be more manageable.

Hi Jane,
This is Aug 10, 1999 I read the July Haiku contest results. This section is easy, entertaining, and educational. Then as so many times before I submitted a Haiku for the contest. This time instead of the Mendecino Co web page I got a little page that said thanks for the contribution. Thanks it seems to work good. In any case whether or not the haiku measures up I appreciate your efforts to teach me and so many others so much. I've got to go look up some stuff now that I know more.

Thanks to everyone for enabling me to enjoy poetry even more than ever. I have rarely written poetry until I found this site. Now, after learning from all of you, my skills of clearly being able to write better have improved beyond where I would have never believed them to go to. Thanks again!

Hi, it's 9/28/99 and it appears that a lot of poems have been recently 'retired' to the archives early or is it my imagination?

I am new to poetry and have never been published even though i have written over 90 odd poems. I would love to join you chat but am not too sure were best to start. Do you go to the last poem and add comments ? How do you get you own poems on the site ? I would like to contribute, any comments on my work would help me a great deal as i think i have a long way to go.
Thanks

i don't so much have a comment about this site as much as i would like to make a plea to the anonymous. i feel that the nameless really get cheated out of the full potential of this site. it is very hard to critique a work without having no idea to the writer's style. chapter 2 makes so much more since after reading chapter 1. i'm not asking anyone to give up their social security cards but please, pretty please, come up with some sort of ------- screen id. now that i think about it i have an issue with censorship. the most versatile word in English colloquial parlance is - and i won't say it (but you know it got you here) it's not the words fault we find it offensive, it just works tirelessly day in and out facilitating the language. my point is that...2bcont.

You have an excellent page, I'm an old net-head that has been disconnected for about four years and I am very happy with the growth that has come about. on the obscenity debate: Have you outlawed all "swear words" or is a context thing? Are poems of a more graphic sexual/violent nature welcome or is that based on context?Anyhow, thank you for the outlet, I think its a great site and I'm thankful to be allowed to ruin it with my horrible spelling an primitive poetry. Thanks!
P.M.David, Ninth Level, White Suburbia, Hell; DeathLung@hotmail.com
Swear words in poetic context are allowed. The only
thing not allowed in context is disrespect to single
people or groups of people.
Thanks, Ann C.

Sorry Ann! I just read your comment to my initial question and know understand the flack I caught for one of my comments directed at INZANE's poems. Just out of curiosity, is there any amount of poetry that is written before an author is published, or is it based solely on the worth of the poet? Btw, I live in Colorado as well, if you see me around say hello(I'm the aloof poet w/ smoldering good looks).
Is there an amount of time that a poem stays on the interactive poetry creature? I ask because I have found some of mine to be missing when I have posted them only a day ago. Also, one of my poems called Haiku#1MaryJane, or something along those lines, does not come up under my name when I do an author search.
sorry to whine so much, thanks again.

Ann- just wondering if there was a reason so many of my poems have been closing so quickly. Are they really so horrid?

Excuse me, but in my poem #16404, entitled "Parasitic love", someone has written the words "ate my glove". I don't think that its funny, nor do I want that to show up in my archive. Could you please be so kind as to remove the intrusive line from my poem? I would be ever so grateful, sincerely~silhouette

I just discovered this site abd I like it a lot--interactive poetry is a great idea. Noticed though that some get confused on the formatting. There is an area that says to "add a line to the poem" and then there is a commenting area. Some use the poem area for a title and then the commenting area for the poem--sometimes this causes confusion, as it did with me. Some write their poems in the comments and others in the first area. I think it would be nice to have a first area for the title a second for the poem and then the 3rd for the comments. But if that is not possible I will just go with the flow and do whatever on each individual piece--no big deal--just an observation..thank you to whoever it is for putting the time and energy for keeping up this site

Hi
I'd like to share with everyone, an indispensable writer's tool: get it at www.sequoya-uk.com there's a free trial download of an application that randomly tests your vocabulary - from a database of words that YOU yourself create. So it doesn't matter whether you are a professional writer or not. My command of vocabulary has increased 10 fold since I started using it. Remember, I told you first!

Hello there, I am curious as to who wrote the line, "Dear God, the sea is so wide and my boat is so small", as I coined that phrase when I was a child in a piece of art that I made for Ozone House, Ann Arbor, Michigan, a youth advocacy center, and one of the original--still part of the triangle--in this country. Please advise!
