You might want to consider somehow setting up you different catagories to display only the most recent entries at a time.... the file takes a while to finish loading itself on my computer (28.8). Also to shorten your screens and make the site more enjoyable and easier to get through, you might consider keeping the comments seperate from the poem and have whomever wants to read or write comments to click on a comment button to bring up the comments. I believe that these modifications would make this whole site more enjoyable and easier to peruse. No offense to anybodies comments but you have to scroll through a whole conversation to get to the next poems, especially if you don't know the number of the poem you are trying to find. have seen these things done on some other pages and they seem to work nice. I like this page and i hope my comments can be of service to you. :-)

This place is so cosmic. It is surreal that you can actually have your poetry read and critiqued by other humans. I am 15, and I have some poems in the Solo Critique section, and I have added alot to the Gothic/Surreal section. This place is sooooo great! I put a poem on here once, and an hour later, there were 4 more after mine! This place is magnetic.

Thank you for this place,

Kelli

Ann, these pages are wonderful, I spend far too much time exploring them! Just one thing though: in the Solo salon, completed poems are currently listed (as in the others) with details of poem number, first line, and date submitted. Is there any way you could include the name of the contributor here, for the solo work? I've wanted to look up previous work from people who's stuff I have enjoyed, and it takes ages to look through each poem.
Other than that though, fab.

Helen F, London;

Hello. I have been visiting this little corner of cyber space for about three weeks now. I have read poems. I have written poems. I do not what to sound arrogant but, I have been slightly disappointed with the quality of work and criticism that has filled these pages. How many poems in the world have to be about finding a date? Or about feeling all black and blue inside. It's not that I don't respect the right to a persons own emotions, but hey! Poetry is an art form, people! How about some respect for poetry and it's right to be honest and meaningfull. I only bother to say any of this is because I think that an incredible tool exists here. Poetry is such a powerfull language and it is perhaps capable of surviving this fast paced world of quick fixes. To hell with vidieo games and direct T.V., the world should be writing! I am just and ignorant slave to this system too. But I think I know few things. What can be done, what am I not seeing? Poetry should not be ego food. Poetry should reflect the images of the soul, unlock the secrets of the universe, create love, discover truths. It should not become the scraps of greedy dogs who need new faces to ride the bus with. That's all. Maybe I'm no better. But I know exactly where these words come from.

I was just wondering what happened to poems 143-145.. my poem is one of these and I'd like to know where they disappeared to. Thank you.-Shannon

I love this site. There are too many silent poets
out there. This is a great place to share your words.
I would like to know if there is a link where you can
enter a complete poem without having to do it line by
line. Thanks.

This site is addictive! I never really knew how people could get "lost in the Web" until I found this!

I was welcomed kindly several months ago and have contributed on occasion.
This site is very special, helping all of us grow personally and creatively.
I feel some sense pride seeing all the expansions and new brite talents.
Thank you all for making this a living part of the Great Work.
ET, ;

There are some really good writers here.Quite often
when I visit this page I am left spellbound and emotionally
drained.I have been truely touched by much of the
work presented here.
wes keel, huntsville,AL;

The format makes it difficult to read/comment on some
of these...especially the solo page. Some re-working
may need to be done to make it easier to submit and
read more than a single line.

Whats up with disappearing poetry?
I don't mind getting closed if things look done,
but I had an open question out to the forum....

Ann, when you have the time, please examine the comments on #649 in Solo.
Some of us would like to be able to signal that we REALLY want and will accept criticism by posting in a section clearly marked as such. I have received emails from Maggie and kaiel agreeing with my request. I’m sure the reasons are clear to you, but anyway they are spelled out in the comments in #649 Solo.
Thank you for your attention and thank you, again, for this lovely site.

Ann, thank you for the opportunity to share, read, and connect with others.

Rae, ; daleo@concentric.net

to get the least out of the way, i must agree with anonymous, however, alot of what she rails against it seems she puts into her own work, i though, share her sentiments, and believe this art form should be respected..what would happen if a person turning out low grade school rhymes about being suicidal and manic depressive should accidentaly stumble a future poet, perhaps the next greatest one, what a true shame that would be. she described what poetry should be, almost flawlessly, and even though it open to interpretation, she puts it nicely, and everyone should heed her thoughts on that subject. simply put, I DONT WANT TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR FUCKIN SUICIDAL RANTINGS. thank you, anyone can write things of that caliber. all should pay attention, for soon i will post my notice to bad poets memorandum.
Now as for the author of this web page, simply enough cannot be said for her positive actions, it makes you wonder who should be praised more, the artists themselves or those who support them and therefore provide them to the world. Thank you, dear lady for this medium. and lastly, no one should get offended at their criticisms, it is not personal, purely objective, and after all if you dont want criticism then you should not print anything. so become used to it, its just as much our right to criticise as it is yours to defend your poem and the criticism. you should expect it. thank you author.

I just wanted to thank you for this forum. For
the most part, the poems are inspiring and thought
provoking. It's great to be able to share your
works, gain constructive criticism, or honest
praise. Thanks, again.

I wrote a poem on 20 Mar 98 (your 19 Mar 98) at my lunchtime (your 7.30pm) come my 3 pm someone had closed the poem (Poem titled He in HCS one) I need to know how one stops a poem from being closed before anyone has read it, is there a way to reactivate this poem without rewriting it?
Pixie, Sydney, Australia; nutpix@fast.net.au

3-21-98 -- I would like to know why certain poems seem to disappear randomly from the salons. Yesterday I put in something in High Critique Solo 1 and now all but one poem are gone from that salon. Now maybe I'm alone in this belief but I don't think it's very fair to disappear poems that have not yet had a chance to be commented on, because they haven't been there long enough for such to take place!
Rianneia, ;

Annoyed to tha max, the poem I referred to two entries up was closed after two hours this time. I wish to formally abuse the censor who closes poetry on the same day. I agree we should clean up our own long postings, but I chose to let others clsoe their own works - so should this lunatic closer. Just
'cos our poems are not your tyhpe does not mean they are not worthy to be read or judged by others. Give us all a break and keep your sticky fingers to your self. I warn you, you are dealing with a hormonial pregnant woman - grrrrr. Pixie. )PS if you're strong enough to close poetry talk about why in this forum)
Pixie, Sydney, Australia; nutpix@fast.net.au

Hi. Even if I say how much this page means to be it will be overshadowed by the truth of it. But still : 'How much this page means to me'. :) I've been in extreme ethernet comfort for a while, so haven't really noticed download problems. However, now on holiday on a 28.8 modem and phone bills (which, admittedly, my parents pay for), they become apparent. I think a set of options available top the reader may help eg :
-checkboxes if you only want to view new stuff today
-an option to 'ignore' a poem (this helps if commentary gets very long/heated, as it sometimes does, and troubles those who aren't interested. Thing is, i often feel guilty because i'm often either fuelling or starting such debates, and they get VERY long, and there is guilt in making other people HAVE to read it. So an option next to the poem would be good.
-perhaps an option to have an 'data entry' frame, where all input (poems/commentary) can be entered. This will save the trouble of having to reload the Central Viewing Page all over again. If user wants to see what has happened since their last comment, they can simply refresh the central page. I realise your site has been designed to accomodate even the simplest of browsers, hence maybe a reservation towards frames :) but almost everyone has a framecapable bwr now, and in this case it would be extremely useful.
i could go on and on, but this already maybe too long and probably has all been sugested before.
again, i lose myself in your site. the perfect media for non-commercial, authentic expression of feeling.
thanks

Oh, also just wanted to assure you that I am not trying to whine, and in fact the way you have done the page is a godsend to people with netscape 1. also, i don't know much aqbout cgi scripting, so i dont know how viable my suggestions were./irfan

Dan,
I closed your poem the other day, it was to beautiful to add anything else to. More words would have ruined the intensity. I hope you keep writing you really do have a gift.

I'd just like to tell you that your poetry pages have been the most wonderful thing to happen to me in a long while. I recently went through some terrible stuff and writing about it and getting people's comments, etc has really really helped me to move on. Thank you for that :)

why not set up an individual salon for uk users? the vast majority of users of this site are american, meaning that the majority of traffic and discussion happens in the middle of my night, so i miss out, for the most part, on the best discussion. When I do my browsing the place seems dead, sometimes.

Ann: Someone closed #4558 in solo #1 (titled teleplastique). It's not my poem but I had commented on it and went to closed section to read it again and to see if author responded to my comment. Unfortunately, all that is there is the title. No poem, no commentary. Can the lost information be retrieved?

I thank you for creating such a site. I find great joy in shareing my poetry, recieving critiques, and viewing others poetry. I think it is a great opportunity to relate to other people. Ever since I've found it I can't help but visit once a day.---Peace, Love,and Happiness.

The concept could be fun, but there is quite a bit of intellectual snobbery. And it seems as though the commentaries are mostly used for meaningless chatter. Not your fault.

Sorry, having a few probs with IE5 disconnecting
and only sending half-messages.
Also having problems writing new poetry.
Titles seem to shove themselves into my new poem and -poof- somebody's work is below dual titles.
Is your site set up to only accept single-user writing at any single time?

I feel like someone has gone on a closing spree against me personally. At least four of my poems, two of which I feel were quite good, were closed between Dec. 8 and Dec. 10, 2000. What can I do? J.E.

This is in response to ANONYMOUS comments about the 'quality' of work and that poetry is not about ego, ya da ya da....poetry means different things to different people as does looking a painting, you may see something total different on the canvas, but it still art.Just because your idea of what poetry should be doesn't seem to be here, try looking at it from another perspective. Ego, love,desire, the blues, depression and many other emotions contribute to a writers poetry writing.What do you write? There are a lot of ANONYMOUS writers here, and they seem to have plenty of criticism but no antecdotes.
Let Van Gogh be Van Gogh and enjoy the unexpected, a lot of feeling and longing goes into the art portrayed here.
Personally, I don't remember anyone seeking a 'date' although sometimes the comments do get pretty racey and flirtacious, that does not constitute trying to find a date.You don't say how long you have been posting/reading on this site, but something else you should keep in mind is that some of the writers here actually KNOW one another outside of this webpage....as friends, lovers, or even ex-lovers.
Be more considerate of the emotions expressed here....feeling IS ART.....

I wanted to make a comment to someone elses posted comment about reading depressive poetry. I am one of those who has been known to write a little on the 'dark side' and I have to say that writing is an outlet and a therapeutic one. This is a way for us to be able to say what we cannot or should not say in public or out loud. I am not going to stop writing. I have been writing for 3 years on this site.I do, however apologize for offending anyone with my poetry, but it expresses me.

Orgasmic Butterfly (April Parker), Gautier(go-shey), Mississippi ; parkercrw@cableone.net

I have gone through the list of comments on this page, and I see the validity in all of the poet's point of view. We simply come here to write and to be known on some level or another. I would say to everyone to read what you like and comment to whatever you want to comment to. That's reality. Everyone write the type of poetry they see as legitimate. I'm not to say or no one else is to say that their poetry is less valid or more valid than another's. I think I see things this way because I have been posting on this site for so long. Perhaps for 7 or 8 yrs now. I was 16. Now I'll be turning 24 on the 30th of August. I grew up with this site. My poetry grew also. I rebelled against this site. I ranted and raved on this site. I was suicidal. I was drunk. I was happy, sad, angry, and sometimes pitiful. I think when most of you exeperience your all on this site as you do in life you will have something else to say about other's work of art.
